Site last updated 1st September 2010 Eric BurchellEric Burchell possesses a varied and diverse background in the research and development of Vapor and Particulate Detection at trace levels using dogs. Eric's previous experience in breeding has given him the opportunity to identify and develop the desirable genetic traits that are most sought after in the well balanced working /service dog. He is well versed in the advanced technical and tactical aspects of scent discrimination training and deployment. He has endeavored over the last fifteen years to make dog work in this field his specialty. Eric has worked closely with scientific Government Agencies to validate the results and achievements that he has obtained during the years of research and has instructed in the area of scent discrimination on a world wide basis. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE Initial training experience was in the gundog and field trial arena. 1980 - Present Instructor/Consultant of Canine Scent Discrimination Training 1993 - 2000 Engaged by Mechem Consultants of South Africa to conduct initial six months trials in the UK using the Mechem Explosive Drug Detection System (MEDDS). 1997 Contracted in by the Norwegian Peoples Aid to consult on the canine Programe in Angola West Africa. They were using MEDDS technology. Also visited Mozambique to consult on the ongoing canine projects in the south of the country. 1999 Eric was engaged in similar related projects (see 1997) with the United States Government, working with their own research agency DARPA. This was a landmine detection programme using canine verses the latest electrical and chemical technology of the time. 1999 - 2005 - Was involved in training projects with a number of organisations on our client list. 2005 ACT DETECTION DOGS LTD was formed with long time business associate Christopher Hanlon who had already made strides in the contraband detection field and also had a similar background in dog training. The aim here was to breed and develop ACT' s own brand of service canine, dogs that could be developed from 0-12 months with the correct management and input.
